Committees

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

Mandate: To attract and retain quality Rotarians and build future leadership from within club ranks for many years to come. To engage Rotarians in Club activities and projects and promote the annual Rotary themes and ideals and mantra of Service above Self.

ROTARY PARK COMMITTEE

Mandate: On going maintenance of the park as well as improvements, work sessions, winter sleigh rides, build, construct, and / or perform any necessary maintenance, manual labour or anything else as required. Rotary Park is located at the base of Adanac Ski Hill in New Sudbury and follows the Junction Creek Waterway west towards Notre Dame Avenue/ Flour Mill area, and is adjacent to the former Barrydowne Arena property. It is comprised of several km of walking and biking trails and natural habitat. Rotary Park is a multi year centennial project of both the Sudbury Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers. Long – term projects include soccer fields, arch way at entrances, BMX Bike Park, and a Recognition Wall.

DUCK DASH COMMITTEE

Mandate: All things DUCK. This is our one annual fund raising campaign. It occurs every May at Lilly Creek Park located on Paris Street across from Science North. Each Rotarian is expected to sell approximately 40 books of tickets at $20 each from January through to May.

Each Rotarian is also assigned to a Duck Dash sub committee and given a role in the event and event preparation. Subcommittees include Sponsorship, Advertising, Ticket Sales Coordination, Accounting, Swamp Crew and Event

SGT. AT ARMS

Mandate: At each meeting the Sgt. at Arms is authorized to levy fines and he/ she sees fit for any misconduct lack of wearing badge, not addressing guests properly or any violation of meeting or other protocol. Often humourous report may include audio visual or rotary quiz question to challenge Rotary or other knowledge. Committee members expected to perform approximately every 4-6 weeks.

VOCATIONAL SERVICE

Mandate: To promote high ethical Rotary standards and celebrate Vocational service and organize visit to various vocations to educate and enlighten fellow Rotarians. Also coordinator of the Duck Pack Program whereby surplus supplies and toiletries are collected by travelling Rotarians and then distributed through the Samaritan Centre to help the needy and less fortunate with the daily necessities of life.

INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE

Mandate: A very large portfolio requiring many volunteers comprised of three sub committees as follows:

Youth Exchange Committee

Mandate; To host an International student for approximately 1 year and to choose a local student to participate in the Outbound Exchange Program. Annual Activities include: Small Fundraisers to subsidize cost of the program.

Host a fundraising dinner for the Student, Interview for an Outbound student, transport students to all Rotary District events (4 or 5 per year) Find Host Families, Support the student in any way we can. Committee members are expected to attend committee meetings, help out with all fundraisers, and act as Guardian for our students. We are always looking for people to help out.

International Project

Mandate: Find and implement International projects on behalf of the Club including choosing an appropriate project, applying for matching grants from Rotary International and District, seeing the project through to completion, help with fundraising for the project, and ensuring work is done to the standards of Rotary International.

Paul Harris Award Dinner

Mandate: To award a Paul Harris Fellowship to one or two Rotarians or local citizens each year. Our club will host a breakfast, dinner or lunch in honour of the recipient. The event will be advertised tickets sold and funds raised will be used to fund our international project for that year. Committee must slect a worthy recipient, plan an event and program and presnt the Paul harris Award, promote and sell tickets to the event.

ADMINISTRATION – CLUB SERVICE

Mandate: Club service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the smooth functioning of Rotary Club special events. To promote fun and fellowship by coordinating and organizing fun social events and hands on participation projects for Rotarians and spouses to meet mix and mingle. Includes annual Golf Tournament, Christmas Get-Together, Curling Bonspiel, June Turnover Dinner, Bocce and Baseball Club Challenges, Pool nights and more. Bring your creative thinking, planning and / or project management skills.

SERVICE PROJECTS

Mandate: To engage Rotarians and promote the Service above Self in projects such as Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army Kettles, Roadside Clean Up, and other worthwhile causes including. Obtaining and selecting worthwhile community causes to support financially or through participation and evaluating and recommending projects to the board for participation or consideration to promote the Rotary mantra of Service above Self.

COMMUNICATIONS BULLETIN EDITOR

Mandate: To compile and publish and distribute the weekly newsletter including attending regular meetings and taking photographs of guest speakers or attending events and taking photos as required. Photography or journalism background would be an asset. Communicating any breaking news or information to be circulated via email to the club members as required.

ROTARY FOUNDATION COMMITTEE

Mandate: Educate Rotarians on the works of the Rotary Foundation, promote Foundation activities and month (November) including the Every Rotarian Every Year campaign. Annual Blitz in November to educate and inform fellow Rotarians on the three main funds and the new and exciting Bill and Melinda Gates $100 Million Dollar matching grant Challenge.

Four for All


Rob, Sue, Gary and Tracy’s four for all event is coming up on May 30th at the Rotary Park.

The walkathon for PetSave will be taking place with registration at 10am and walk beginning at 11am. It’s a chance to help homeless animals in our community and promote Rotary Park.

You’re encouraged to bring your families and dogs and join the walk.
