Registration is still open for District 7010’s Rotary Weekend. While President-Elect Mick Weaver will be “in class” with his peers from all 48 Clubs in our District, other Rotarians in attendance will enjoy impactful presentations on service, membership, public image, and much much more. Saturday night features an offsite fun fresh fish fry with proceeds going to the Rotary Foundation. So join us – April 12-14, 2024, at the Best Western Hotel & Conference Centre in North Bay. Sunrisers represent!
Our international youth exchange student, Lea Blodin, shared highlights of her first six months in Canada with her host family, Sunrisers extraordinaire, Tim Blatt and Maureen McNamara. Soon after her arrival, she joined other YEX students for a camping adventure in Algonquin Park. Since then, she has had the opportunity to attend an NFL game, enjoyed trips to Ottawa and Montreal and has become a huge fan of the Sudbury Wolves and the Sudbury 5! Lea also highlighted some of the biggest differences between Canada and her home country of Belgium. Canada has many lakes, windows that open out, not in, and a more lax school environment. For example, students in Belgium are not allowed cell phones in classrooms, even during the lunch break. In Belgium, the legal drinking age is 16 but the legal driving age is 18.
Next up, Assistant Governor and District Visioning Chair, Louise Bergeron, gave an overview of our recent Club survey results. Sunrisers were definitely engaged with a remarkable 62.5% response rate. Key areas that received high scores included club engagement in dynamic meaningful service and fellowship. Sunrisers would like better communication, both within the Club and in our community, and more information on DEI - diversity, equity and inclusion.
President-Elect Mick Weaver concluded the meeting by unveiling his 2024-25 Leadership Team and some of the exciting activities already in the works. Mick is looking for 100% engagement of all Sunrisers throughout the year. Rotary International President-Elect, Stephanie Urchick of the Rotary Club of McMurray, Pennsylvania, has unveiled her International theme for 2024-25 – “The Magic of Rotary.” With Magic Mick at the helm, it promises to be another engaging, fun, meaningful and productive year for the Sunrisers!
